How To Play Omaha Poker

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Ohama Poker plays the second best in attracting a large amount of people in card games next to Texas Hold’em. Ohama Poker is very similar to Texas Hold’em, with the main difference being that a player can choose his or her hand out of nine cards instead of seven. This is the reason for the growing popularity of the game.

Omaha, which has the same structure as Texas Hold’em, is played very similar to Texas Hold’em; the only difference being that each player is dealt four hole cards instead of two. The players post the blinds and then receive their hole cards. After receiving the hole cards, a betting round takes place and then comes the ‘flop’, the ‘turn’ and the ‘river’ with a betting round between each of them.

The main difference between Omaha and Texas Hold’em is that each of the players has to form his hand out of precisely two hole cards and three board cards. This is different from Texas Hold’em where a player could use either one or both (or even none) of his hole cards. If a player is trying to win the low hand, he must use two unpaired hole cards that are ranked lower than eight, and three board cards, also unpaired, that are also ranked lower than eight.

In Omaha, the starting hands should be coordinated, which means that they should fit together. What you really want are cards that are more likely to form into straights, flushes or a full house. It’s very rare that a pair would hold up on an Omaha table. Look for double-suited hands, giving you two chances of a flush and cards that are close together or considered in a run.

In playing the game, this is an example where many new Omaha players falter. The players, for instance, see four spades on the board, which are the community cards, and they have the Ace of Spades in their hand. They think they have the nut flush, forgetting that a player must use two hole cards, therefore needing two spades in his hand to make a flush.

Omaha is played either Pot Limit or Limit. The game is not played No Limit, as having four hole cards gives so many extra possibilities, chances, and permutations. If playing No Limit, the game would be too wild and without direction.

If it is hard to beat the house in casino game craps, it is impossible to beat it regularly. When playing casino game craps, do not expect to win most of the times. No real winning strategy exists for craps casino game. But you can minimize your losses and make the game more enjoyable to play, more entertaining if you follow some simple craps tips.

Casino craps is a sophisticated game, it has so many kinds of bets that the first thing you need to do is to learn the casino craps game rules.

There are two most common bets in the casino game craps rules – the pass line and the don’t pass line. Whenever one of them wins, the other one loses. We will mention two other casino game craps bets which are also more important than the rest: the come bet and the big 6 and big 8 bet. Both of them as well as the pass line bet have lower house edge.

- Pass line bets. The basic bet that the shooter will make a pass. Wins if you either throw a 7 or 11 on the come-out roll or repeat the point number before rolling a 7.

- Come bets. In the casino game craps it is identical to the pass line bet, except it may be made on every throw once a point has been established.

- Big 6 and 8 bets. The Big6 and Big8 bets are wagers that a 6 or 8 will be rolled before a 7. These craps bets pay even money.

Baccarat Strategy, Myth Or Possibility?

Friday, June 19th, 2009

As with any form of casino games, including poker, blackjack and roulette, the player is always looking for a strategy to increase their chances of winning. Many experiences Baccarat players feel that any mention of a strategy is purely based on myth and rightly so. We will look over some of the more common proclaimed strategies in an attempt to come to a concrete conclusion on the Baccarat strategy myth.

The Scorecard
Almost every casino will hand out a scorecard to every player at the table. Players can be spotted keeping track of the outcome of each hand in an attempt to spot patterns in order to take advantage of a streak. The casinos encourage this behavior simply because they know it has no bearing on the outcome of the game. Following a supposed pattern in Baccarat is as fruitless as it is with Roulette. Each hand plays independent of the last but this does not stop betters from believing they have found a betting edge by following trends. It is in your best interest to abstain from this habit as it has no outcome on the cards being dealt and will not provide you with any sort of edge.

Card Counting
While often referred to as a stable of successful Blackjack play, card counting is another card strategy that is meaningless in the game of Baccarat. Although it may appear as a worthy strategy for the Baccarat player, the fact that the issue of used cards being fed back into the “shoe” before all have been removed negates any count you may have made up to that point. Card counting for Baccarat is a race with no end, the cycle of cards makes it impossible to ever have a solid system in place.

What works?
The most common system used would be always betting on the banker. Although this is by far the most boring of any system it is the only one that can be mathematically proven to give you an edge.

The Final Word
After examining the many strategies proposed for the game of Baccarat is becomes quite clear that there is no failsafe method to improve your odds. Betting on the banker may make you a winner more often than not but it also strips the game down to a series of planned bets. It is best to enjoy the game for what it is and abandon any attempt and finding a strategy to help your odds at the Baccarat table.

Video Poker: Is It Worth It?

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Video Poker seems to be one of those games that people are a little dubious about until they give it a whirl, and the concept of it being worth it, of being able to gain an advantage is the biggest cause of this dubiousness.

I was recently assured of a way of gaining the advantage in a progressive jackpot video poker game: Of course strategies vary from game to game, particularly between wild and no-wild games. However, on a machine that pays out 8-1 on a full house and 5-1 on a flush, there is, or so I’m assured, a means of gaining the advantage.

First, locate a progressive jackpot machine whose jackpot is greater that the maximum bet x 1750; the reason that this is important is because it is only once the jackpot gets this high that the game is even with the house, therefore if the game isn’t even there is no way of gaining an advantage. Now, in theory, or at least this is what I’ve been told; with each 350 x max bet addition to the jackpot, the players advantage increases by 1%. Therefore if you come across a progressive jackpot with a jackpot 2100 x the maximum bet, you have a 1% advantage; if you find one with a jackpot 2,450 x the maximum bet you have a 2% advantage.

Unfortunately, getting to this stage of play requires a lot of time and a lot of money; more of both than most people have. Therefore short of building up the advantage as suggested above, it might be best to simply be familiar with the frequency of video poker hands, and from that determine the likelihood of gaining an advantage. The following statistics were given to me a by a guy in the industry, who claims they are the average frequency of video poker hands:

A royal flush, which is of course what we all want appears once ever 32, 680 hands; a straight flush every 10, 163 hands; four of a kind every 425 hands; a full house every 87 hands; a flush every 90 hands; a straight every 89 hands; three of a kind every 14 hands; two pair every 8 hands; and a pair every 5 hands. Now, in terms of timing, based on these statistics the average video poker machine will therefore produce a royal flush ever 60 hours of constant rapid play; a straight will appear every 6 hours or so, as will a flush; whilst a 4 of a kind will pop up on a more or less hourly basis.

Therefore the majority of the time the video poker player is playing at a disadvantage, however this will be somewhat compensated for by the more regular smaller hands. Is it possible to manipulate the outcomes, to create an advantage? In all honesty probably not, but isn’t it fun trying?

Rummy is a name that is given to a group of games of the same nature. There are many games that are based on a specific game play. The games are designed for 2-4 players and the main objective of the games is to dispose of all of the cards in your hand before your opponent. You rid your hand of cards by forming sets (3-4 cards of the same ranking) or runs (3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit). The game consists of two basic moves each turn; drawing a card from the stock or discard pile and discarding an un-needed card from your hand. When a player has formed sets and runs with all of the cards in their hands (except for one discard card) the game ends.

The History of Rummy
We all owe a great debt of gratitude to the 17th century Chinese people for coming up with the idea of Rummy. Over the past 200 years there have been numerous card games played though few have become as popular as Rummy!

Unfortunately the details about the invention of Rummy are blurry and there is an ongoing debate as to whether or not the game of Mahjong was the proto-type for Rummy. The most popular theory is that a Gin enthusiast from New York thought up the game in the 19th century (Gin Rummy). No matter what theory you believe in, we are all lucky that this exciting and challenging game has become so popular throughout the world!
